Meet Your KHOA Staff - Keith Freeman

As a continuation of our Meet Your KHOA Staff series, we have the pleasure of introducing to you Keith Freeman, your Assistant Community Director and Sports and Recreation Director.

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Keith Freeman. I live on Lake Washington aboard a mini-yacht with my wife Kara, and our cat, Callie. I moved from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Washington on July 4, 2016. I started working in Klahanie in November of 2020. My family heritage is made up of Irish, Romanian, and Native American.

What is your position within the KHOA and what exactly do you do?

I serve the Klahanie community as the Assistant Community Director and the Sports and Recreation Director. I have enjoyed so many things about Klahanie. I love meeting the residents and helping them get the most out of owning their homes here. Bringing improvements to the amenities and participating in the events are some of the most rewarding things I do here.

Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they and why do you enjoy them?

When not working you may find me doing photography, swimming, or coaching. All of these things are close to my heart. I was a professional photographer for over 13 years and had a studio at the mall back in Iron Mountain. I love to create art and help people see themselves in a different light. My mother is an artist and photography was my outlet for my creativity. As for the swimming, my great grandmother was a swimmer. I have medals that she had won that are over 100 years old now. Swimming is where I find my solace and find time to think about things I don’t normally take the time to think about. I let the line on the bottom of the pool speak to me. When I am coaching, I am sharing a passion and a skill that I love. You will often find me spending my days off coaching and teaching lessons. I had one employer who would apologize for asking me to sub as a coach. I would always reply, “When you are doing something you love, it’s not work!” I have had the opportunity to train under 2 Olympic coaches and life is too short to not pass on as much knowledge as I have gained. My father always kept busy as I was growing up. I feel I get to make him proud by keeping busy helping other people by sharing my skills and talents.
